For complex specialist care, Shreveport (LSU Health, Ochsner LSU) is 70 minutes west on I-30, and Little Rock (UAMS) is 2.5 hours east. Dallas is 3 hours SW on I-30.

The state-line insurance problem deserves emphasis. A Texarkana TX resident with a Texas BCBS plan may find that the nearest in-network endocrinologist is in Shreveport (70 mi) rather than at Wadley Regional 3 miles away in Arkansas—because their Texas network doesn't include Arkansas providers. The reverse is equally true. The state line creates an artificial specialist desert in a metro that technically has two hospital systems.
